                      Code of Ethics

The Pine Tree Golden Retriever Club’s purpose through its members, owners and breeders is to try to perfect the breed through selection, breeding and training within the AKC and GRCA Guidelines.

  1. I/We will follow the rules of good sportsmanship in all dog show competitions and activities and adhere to accepted practices for the humane treatment for all dogs. I/We will attempt to help and befriend novice exhibitors and breeders.
  2. I/We will provide all our dogs with a safe and clean environment with adequate food, water and one on one attention.
  3. I/We will fully explain to all prospective purchasers the inherent problems including the possibility of inherited defects, as well as the joys of owning a Golden Retriever. I/We will screen prospective owners to the best of my/our ability and will refuse a sale if it is not in the best interest of the dog.
  4. I/We will encourage spaying /neutering of all puppies sold primarily as pets and sell puppies with a Limited Registration.
  5. PTGRC strongly recommends that breeding occur after twenty-four (24) months of age.
  6. PTGRC strongly recommends that breeding stock have OVC, OFA or Penn-Hip certification.
  7. PTGRC strongly recommends that a dog should not be bred that has not been proven free of hereditary diseases by a board-certified, licensed veterinary ophthalmologist at or after twenty-four (24) months of age. This current clearance is to be within twelve (12) months of any upcoming breeding. This is a clearance that needs to be done yearly.
  8. PTGRC strongly recommends not breeding a dog that has not been certified free of SUBVALVULAR AORTIC STENOSIS (SAS) by a board- certified, licensed veterinary cardiologist at or after twelve (12) months of age.
  9. PTGRC strongly recommends before entering into any breeding agreement, carefully analyzing the conformation and pedigrees of the prospective sire and dam, and, KEEPING THE BREED STANDARD CLEARLY IN MIND.
  10. I/We will refuse to sell puppies or dogs to wholesalers or pet shops. I/We will include in all stud contracts an agreement to be signed by the owner of the bitch that no puppies resulting from the breeding will be wholesaled or sold to pet shops. I/We will not donate or sell any dogs or puppies to an animal shelter or laboratory.
  11. Breeders are to be responsible for all animals resulting from their breeding. This is to be construed as assistance in finding a new home or taking back any puppy/dog for any reason given by the purchaser.  I/We, as a breeder or stud dog owner, will take this responsibility.

 

SUSPENSION OF MY/OUR PRIVILEGES BY THE AKC or GRCA
WILL RESULT IN SUSPENSION OF MEMBERSHIP IN THE PINE
TREE GOLDEN RETRIEVER CLUB, INC.
